How we help

Cover My 6 Iowa
P.O. Box 731
Grimes, Iowa 50111

Dear supporters of Cover My 6 Iowa,

On behalf of the Cover My 6 Iowa Board of Directors and the veterans that we are humbled to serve, I say "thank you" for your generous support of this foundation. Cover My 6 Iowa can give veterans a hand up in ways that our governmental organizations cannot to prevent them from falling through the cracks. We feel it is important to inform our donors how their contributions have made an impact in the lives of real veterans that have served our nation. Here are just a few examples.

⦁ In October, we received this letter:

I was recently made aware that you may have funds for helping veterans. I have a veteran and his wife I have been working with for the last nine-months who could use some assistance.
He is a Vietnam Veteran, A Green Beret with a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart, who served several tours from 1965-1975. He currently struggles with PTSD and has suffered a stroke and now requires constant care from his wife.
The live on VA benefits and struggle to make ends-meat. They collect cans by the roadside and do whatever they can to put fuel in the car. They have recently applied for additional benefits but that can take some time to get.
After hearing you speak about the Cover my 6 group at our last VFW meeting - I asked the wife what she could use that would help them the most right now. She did not want help and insisted they would make it but she did have a concern about how they were going to afford brakes and tires for their vehicle they so badly needed.
I have been helping them in any way I can to get to where they can make it. A little help getting over the hump would sure mean a lot.
Thank you for your considering this request,
Jack Cline - VFW Chaplain

Cover My 6 Iowa was there to help this hero (Mr. Bower) and his wife. Our team worked with Stew Hansen's to not just replace the brakes and tires but also to honor Mr. Bower for his extraordinary service.

⦁ In July, we were in the midst of a heatwave when the VA notified us about a veteran that was living in his car. This was a potential life and death situation, and Cover My 6 Iowa immediately came to this veteran's aid. Cover My 6 Iowa arranged air-conditioned lodging for this veteran over the hot weekend and helped him fill out forms and paid his registration to the YMCA to help him get his life back on track.
⦁ The VA annually hosts a holiday party for 30-50 homeless veterans. The VA depends on donations to hold this event. Cover My 6 Iowa was there to help sponsoring food, entertainment, and cold weather apparel badly needed by these homeless veterans.

Of course, none of this would have been possible without the support of people that appreciate the sacrifices our military members and their families make every day. However, we need your continued support to keep making a difference in the lives of Iowa veterans and their families that have fallen on hard times! You may have heard about a recent house fire in Evansdale, Iowa that claimed the life of Albert Schmitt, a 12-year Army veteran who had served overseas. Mr. Schmitt left behind a wife and 2 children, and his eligibility for military life insurance expired just days before his untimely passing. Cover My 6 Iowa will help this family any way we can. Please make your 2019 tax-deductible donation by mailing a check to our P.O. Box or by visiting our website www.cm6iowa.org. Please also save May 10, 2019 on your calendar for our annual golf fundraiser.

Sincerely,
Zach Bonefas
Treasurer, Cover My 6 Iowa
